The Good(Bad)minton

One of those recent infectious things aside Covid that most of the studio members caught is Badminton. Thanks to our Games Producer Darshan who helped inspire, it latched on with everyone at the studio so much so that most of the team plays at a nearby badminton court 3-4 times a week and lash out each other with the Shuttle. Now our producer is relatively a professional player compared to the lot and that gives him all the pleasure to smash the heck out of everyone on the other end. The weaklings bear the brunt of it and shrug it off with a smile. But hey its a sport and you got to be a sport. Most of them naturally started with slashing the racquet miles away from the Shuttle and have reached a point where some of them are able to place some decent shots and occasionally some real smashes. Ofcourse we still have guys who serve to the next court and hit the shuttle like a cricket ball out for a boundary and claim that they need to be given points for it!

Nevertheless the sport seems to be growing on everyone and we managed to even conduct our first tourney where the teams had a go at each other. The completion was both intense and hilarious as some of them were pretty much wielding the racquets for the first time and still managed to whack a shot or two. We distributed prizes ( New Racquets) to the winners and the runner up teams.

Shiny new Racquets to the Runner up team

Even Shinier Racquets to the Winning team!

Now we seriously hope this is not merely a fad and continues to live on as it is also vital to the well being of our members. Its no strange fact that working in the games business can make you sedentary and a couch potato. The Pandemic taught all of us so many valuable lessons and one of those key areas is mental and physical health. While we continue to cook some big stuff at the studio, we also tend to balance things out with some real sport! To make it enticing enough, the studio decided to pick up the tab on a portion of the subscription fee for the court so its easier on everyone’s pocket. This is an area that is easily overlooked by many companies but in the hind sight, we realise its importance that only makes everyone a lot more productive and builds a better bond!
