This has become quite a phenomenon at the studio and we call it the Facebook wall of shame.
Here is how it works. Guys at the studio look for (sometimes pray for) some one to leave their desk with Facebook still logged in.
H5 games (HTML5) as we fondly call them has steadily grown on us ever since 2016 where we began to building byte sized games for the Jio Phone (feature phone). That platform meant that we had to reimagine and go old school as we were too used to building games in more modern tool sets like Unity or Unreal where we could splurge even for Mobile standards.
Carrom Play was one of those casual silent hits for us especially on the MX Player platform and ever since the recent pandemic we wanted to scale the game and make it feature rich. Its a game where we have been relentlessly working on adding continuous updates. The idea was to keep the game super light which meant we built it from the ground up as a HTML5 game and not look at the typical Unity engine that most other studios would pick.
We always wanted to build a multiplayer shooter. The moment any studio thinks of a shooter, only fancy modern shooter pop into mind, we are so influenced by shooters like Counter Strike, Call of Duty, Battle Field, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch to name a few. With the mobile landscape its always a challenge to build such degrees of games especially for smaller studios like us. The idea of building a top down shooter has always lingered in our minds
Well, like many other companies and studios in India and worldwide, we too had transitioned to a complete remote working setup and have been managing to build a lot more cooler games during the lock-down period. While most of us at the studio aren't a big fan of the work from home format, the challenging times meant we had to cope up and adapt and we are after all good at that. The biggest challenge with this format is coordination and correspondence. What would typically be a few minutes of conversation in person could end up taking multiple hours to make sure the message is sent across.
In recent times, we are growing more confident about HTML5 games (nick named H5 games), a medium that has been growing despite the popularity of large games. The issue with large games is , well, they are super large and that can be a huge factor with users who just want to have some fun time for a few mins. Instant games are a great fit here as they can provide that snackable (not really a word) experience. We have been designing several concepts around H5 games part of our IP strategy.
We never really had a chance to blog about our studio space yet and this should be the one. Our spaces have always been evolving to suit our needs and sometimes desires! After all a good working space is a great motivator. This is where all us souls are going to spend a great deal of our life time and we wanted to give it the best love and attention (as long as its a feasible affair)
In recent times we have been seeing a sudden surge in the number of internship application we typically receive and we thought it would good idea to address this topic. Internships are a great way to gain exposures which otherwise is hard especially if its just through institutions. Many students overlook this area and often shy away.
Ok this is rather a topic which is done to death yet we see a strong pull in writing this up as concise as possible. Now being this emerging and growing studio we get sizable amount of applications on a regular basis- across Art, Programming and Design (we will get to Design later!) and we find many of the applications pretty much ending up in trash
Woohoo! We finally got our official Facebook page setup, Did you know that you need at least 25 likes to get an URL from Facebook, well now you know.
If you’re all wondering what we are, we’re a humble startup game studio based in Chennai, India. Our company might be a startup but our small elite team are made up of veterans from the industry, tested, proven and ready to kick ass. We’ll soon update the team page in our website, more on that later.
Our motto is simple, make high quality video games, no rip offs, no VFX projects, no bloated team, no cheap gimmicks and no unnecessary management politics. That’s right! we follow agile methodology and like to keep it that way.
So what games we’re making? games that we would love to play. Our team also happens to be gamers, so we’re making it a point to play games in our studio, so far just board games, Track Mania and Counter Strike, we might start with Team Fortress 2 in the coming weeks. We strongly believe that creativity is equated to the experiences we have, so no constraints.
That’s all the information we can give right now. Stay classy and stay tuned.
